About J.S.A. SAKE DIPLOMA INTERNATIONAL exam
Since our association was established in 1969, we have strived to improve the quality of sommeliers and other people involved in alcoholic beverages and beverages in Japan, and to popularize alcoholic beverages and beverages. Under these circumstances, the environment surrounding our traditional food culture, Japanese food, sake, and shochu, is undergoing major changes.
In light of this current situation, we believe that deepening your knowledge of sake and shochu and improving your skills will lead to the further spread and improvement of Japanese food culture, so we have established and has been implemented. "J.S.A. SAKE DIPLOMA Certification Examination", which specializes in sake and shochu.
Starting this year, the certification will be offered at three levels: Gold, Silver, and Bronze.
Individuals who passed the exam in previous years will be recognized as Gold level.

Nationality, occupation, and work experience are not required.

Exam Results
Exact dates will be announced later.
The announcement will be posted on the J.S.A. website and on MyPage.
Results will not be mailed. Applicants who successfully pass all or part of the examination will also be notified by e-mail.
Starting this year, the certification will be offered at three levels: Gold, Silver, and Bronze.
Individuals who passed the exam in previous years will be recognized as Gold level.
Examination Fee
Once we have received payment of the examination fee and confirmed your ID and photo and confirmation of your ID and photo, we will send you the textbooks and other materials.
We will not be able to ship the textbook until payment has been completed, so please make your payment as soon as possible.
You can issue your own receipt from MyPage.
The examination fee is non-refundable.
If the payment deadline has passed, your application will be canceled and you will need to reapply from the beginning.
Standard Examination Fee
Those who have already passed either Part①Written Exam or Part②Short Essay Exam/Tasting Exam may re-sit the other part without any time limit.
They may take the examination total three times. The re-sit examination fees are as follows.

The textbook is not included for those who are exempt from the examination.
For applicants who apply for membership at the same time
You can apply for J.S.A.member at the same time as apply for this exam.
If you apply for membership at the same time as applying, the membership fee will be half price and exam fee will be also the member price.
Furthermore, If you are 27 years old or younger as of April 1 of the year of admission the first year's membership fee and enrollment fee will be waived.
(However, this is limited to those who have not used it previously).

Textbook
J.S.A.SAKE DIPLOMA ENGLISH textbook is included in the above fee and will be sent to all applicants.
However, the textbook is not included for those who are exempt from the examination.
If you require the latest version of the textbook, please purchase it from the J.S.A. website.

The exam consists in two parts and is conducted on the same day.

- Tasting Exam/ Short Essay Exam
Questions for the exam are mainly taken from out the English version of J.S.A. SAKE DIPLOMA Textbook＜Fourth Edition＞ which is newly published in May 2025.
All questions and answers are in English.

Certification Process
If you successfully pass the entire exam, an additional registration fee of JPY 20,950 (including tax of JPY 1,905) will be required to receive the certification and badge/certificate. Please pay the certification registration fee via My Page.
Starting this year, the certification will be offered at three levels: Gold, Silver, and Bronze.
Individuals who passed the exam in previous years will be recognized as Gold level.
* Loaning, transferring, or reselling badges to third parties is strictly prohibited. Legal action may be taken if such activities are discovered.
