About the Association

The Japan Sommelier Association (J.S.A.) was founded, committed to empowering those involved in the field of bevarages, and to spread knowledge about beverages. Improvement of service skills, securing the hygiene of the food and beverage business environment, the association aspires to educate, promote and support sound management of restaurants. J.S.A. is committed to contribute to the advancement in the social status of those people involved in food culture.

In its aim to foster the growing industry of beverages, improve public health, cultivate a new generation of sommeliers, and for the empowerment of the association members, J.S.A. sponsors and organizes seminars, workshops, and competitions. The association also conducts qualification certification on food and beverages ; production, publication and distribution of textbooks, educational/awareness activities, working for international exchange in collaboration with the Association de la Sommellerie Internationale (A.S.I.) and with overseas wine promotion institutions in Japan. One of the major activities of J.S.A. is the operation and management of the World Best Sommelier Competition.
